Shop Local & Grocery Haul

This might sound unusual, but I love to grocery shop. In college, I used to walk the aisles of Target just looking and day dreaming about everything from home decor to clothes, to cosmetics. Since we no longer live near a Target (and yes, I'm still heartbroken), I began to realize that the grocery store gives a similar mental and emotional rejuvenation. The colorful vegetables, the smells of freshly baked bread, the sounds of mingling shoppers... all packed into this local grocery store just outside of town. And this store, my friends, is called Sunny Farms.

Sunny Farms is a local country store that not only sells some of the best produce around, but they also have the most endearing nursery. Many of our vegetable and herb starts have come from there. They have a whole greenhouse dedicated to starts! I also got a couple french lavender starts, which I will plant near the chicken coop. I could spend hours exploring the vast array of plants, flowers, starts and trees in this nursery.

You can usually find me shopping at Safeway and clipping coupons (because who doesn't love a deal, am I right?), but I often switch things up and visit Sunny Farms to get produce grown locally and meat that was raised here on the Olympic Peninsula. If you haven't already caught on, I'm a huge supporter of small businesses - especially since living in a small town! I'd prefer to shop small and local if at all possible. The atmosphere at small shops, specifically Sunny Farms, makes you feel right at home.

This week, I needed to stock up on fruits and vegetables. We eat a lot of vegetables in our home so this was my chance to get some good, local produce! In addition to produce, I picked up some active dry yeast (for bread making), chips, canned items, chicken breasts and lastly, dried fruit! They have a great bulk section at Sunny Farms so I jumped at the chance to get some dried apricots and banana chips. Dried fruit has become my go to when I'm craving something sweet to snack on. Just a few dried apricots or banana chips and I'm a happy camper!
